Our Curriculum

The child is the curriculum, what they learn and how they learn it, is unique to them.

At West Byfleet Nursery, we are here to give your child a happy and healthy start in life, by providing high quality childcare that meets your child’s needs and interests. We believe that young children thrive, and their minds and bodies develop best, when they have access to a stimulating outdoor environment which includes learning through play and real experiences. To achieve this we provide learning opportunities for all children to explore the environment and nature, grow plants and vegetables and discover the properties of water, mud, sand, paint, playdough and much, much more using all their senses and their whole body as well as the opportunity to run, jump, climb and move freely around the garden.

These experiences are carefully risk assessed and supervised, the children are encouraged to wear aprons and staff do their best to ensure damage to clothes is kept to a minimum, however sometimes the children's enthusiasm means that this is unavoidable. We therefore suggest that children wear clothes that are appropriate, comfortable and easily replaced.

'The best classroom and the richest cupboard are roofed only by the sky'
Margaret McMillan, Nursery Pioneer (1919)

This guide gives an introduction to how we will go about this, using the Early Years Foundation Stage framework (2023).
